US Box Office Predictions for Jan. 7-9, 2011

This is my first entry to a series of Box Office Predictions. Hopefully, I’ll be able to post one per week. If not, I’ll make sure to post one when the movies to be released for the week are interesting. Without further ado, here’s the Lucky 7:

1.) True Grit – $16.7M – This western drama set to become the highest grossing western movie in history. If that’s not enough, then it would have the pleasure of being the number one movie after a three-week run

2.) Little Fockers – $12.5M – I’m surprised that this movie reached $100M this fast considering it stands at 9% on RottenTomatoes. This week we will see it crumble after holding the top spot during Christmas break

3.) Season of The Witch – $10.0M – Nicolas Cage is one heck of an actor. It doesn’t matter if his movies flop, he gets more jobs anyway. He’s a global icon now, I just wish he stars in films we could actually remember. This one we probably wont.

4.) Tron Legacy – $9.0M – It managed to stay steady last week and has now mustered $130M domestically. I love this film, but I don’t see it having a quick sequel anytime soon

5.) Country Strong – $7.5M – We’ve seen Gwyneth Paltrow sing on Glee, hopefully people will remember her and watch this. It has no chance at the Oscars though.

6.) Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader – $6.4M – This movie has been the default flick parents and kids watch. It may have held better after its very disappointing start, at 70% difference from the first movie. Even now, it hasn’t even grossed 1/3 of the original.

7.) Tangled – $6.3M – I can’t wait to see this film. It’s been holding well so I guess word-of-mouth says it’s good. We’ll see

Stay tuned for the actual results!
