“A guy in love with an engaged woman tries to win her over after she asks him to be her maid of honor”
I haven’t watched a 2011 movie as of yet, but I took my time to watch something I missed 2 years ago. Made of Honor starring Patrick Dempsey and Michelle Monaghan surely is something interesting for a certain group of people (like me), but overall, the good story and the solid performances of the lead characters aren’t enough to save the comic failures of the movie.
The biggest problem I had with the movie was its connection with Scotland. I just find the whole concept boring, annoying and uninteresting. Leap Year also suffered because of that. The first half was bearable since it’s centered in the United States, but once they traveled to Scotland, the whole movie was ruined.
Dempsey was solid once again just like in Enchanted, and there was little but noticeable chemistry between him and Monaghan towards the end. I also felt like they started the climax too early, although it wasn’t something that could change the movie much. And, just like all other romantic comedies wherein the guy rushes back to the girl because he wants her back, this one has it, and it was one of the worst ways to do it.
Unlike many generic romantic comedies, this one is definitely something unique. However, the whole telling was poorly directed and could have been much better (and shorter, I had to forward the speed by 1.2 just to endure it). This just proves that being a Made of Honor doesn’t necessarily mean you’re the best.
