Shocking results this week! More on that later. I want to address once again the fact that this week trailed the same weekend last year by 7%. Will we have to wait until summer for a surprise-hit? April doesn’t have anything great to offer either.
Number One Movie Predicted Correctly: 0 Weeks in a Row
Number of Times I Nailed The Top 7: 0
1.) DIARY OF A WIMPY KID 2: RODRICK RULES –You’re probably wondering why the picture shown above isn’t Sucker Punch. Yep, it seems kids trumped the action/video game fans this week. Last year, the Original Wimpy Kid also destroyed The Bounty Hunter, which was also supposed to take the box office crown for that week. Too bad for Director Zack Snyder, after failing with Watchmen and Legend of The Guardians, it looks like The Upcoming Superman Movie will be his last movie offer for a while.
Predicted Outcome: Rank 2, $20.4M
Actual Gross: $24.4M
Total Gross: $24.4M
2.) SUCKER PUNCH – Actually, if you switched the number 1 and 2 movies then I think I’ll have a very great week in terms of predicting grosses. I was too late to submit my predictions at boxofficemojo, so I won’t be able to find out how well I did this week. My favorite critic gave this one an F, saying that it was like Snyder’s wet dream set into a Bjork remix.
Predicted Outcome: Rank 1, $25.0M
Actual Gross: $19.0M
Total Gross: $19.0M
3.) Limitless – Wow, this movie only dropped by 20%! I guess people decided to give this a shot instead of watching Sucker Punch. Will Bradley Cooper be the next it-man for Hollywood? I mean, he does have the face and body.
Predicted Outcome: Rank 3, $12.0M
Actual Gross: $15.2M
Total Gross: $41.3M
4.) The Lincoln Lawyer – Another hot guy in the name of Mathhew McConaughey did well in his second weekend at the box-office. I guess I was right about not knowing how political films fare in its second weekend.
Predicted Outcome: Rank 5, $8.6M
Actual Gross: $11.0M
Total Gross: $28.9M
5.) Rango – BINGO! I was right! Rango is the first movie this year to reach $100M. It just passed Just Go With It to become the highest grossing film of the year so far, though Adam Sandler also posted his 12th $100M movie with that movie.
Predicted Outcome: Rank 4, $10.2M
Actual Gross: $9.8M
Total Gross: $106.3M
6.) Battle: Los Angeles – The number 6 and 7 movie are both about Aliens. This one is centered on war, while the latter is a comedy. Battle fell 49% this week. Which means it may not have enough strength to cross $100M.
Predicted Outcome: Rank 6, $7.1M
Actual Gross: $7.6M
Total Gross: $72.6M
7.) Paul – Who would’ve thought that an alien movie would be called Paul? This might have only been an OK run for Paul in the US, but at the UK box office it’s a monster!
Predicted Outcome: Rank 7, $6.9M
Actual Gross: $7.5M
Total Gross: $24.6M
Total Score: 3 out of 7, with a variance of $2.5M per prediction.
