Movie Review #309: Drive [12 Reviews Before X-Mas #7]

Took a long time to start the engine

In my attempt to watch more arthouse films I came across Drive, a film known more by film junkies rather than the masses, and understandably so. I can’t say I’d recommend the film to everyone as the style and direction definitely won’t suit the majority’s taste. As for me, I’m sort of in the middle ground. I didn’t particularly like the slow pacing of the movie especially in the first half. And my interest in the film was switching off at different times (Carey Mulligan didn’t really help). But despite those drawbacks I can still say it’s a good film thanks to a powerful performance by Ryan Gosling, and the second half of the movie was rather strong and exhilarating as well.
